Scotland: Scotland women’s squad named to face Wales in Cardiff

The Scotland women’s squad has been selected squad for a three-match test series against Wales, in Cardiff, at Sport Wales National Centre.

The games will be played on Saturday 30th March at 17:00; Sunday 31st March at 14:00; and Monday 1st April at 10:00.

Later this year the Tartan Hearts will play on home turf in the vital EuroHockey Qualifiers, which will take place at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre on 22-25 August.

Scotland will feature alongside Wales; Austria; Croatia; Czech Rep; and Lithuania with the tournament winner qualifying for the EuroHockey Championships in 2025.

Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “After some positive performances against Spain in February, it is great to get another chance to test our development in a competitive setting. The past six months have seen a number of new players join the senior programme, and many of those will have the opportunity to represent Scotland against Wales this weekend.

“Whilst our principle goal this year is winning the European Qualifier to return to the EuroHockey Championships in 2025, there is also the balance of developing Scotland long-term, and these fixtures give an opportunity for so many of our younger players to be tested under the pressure of senior international challenge for the first time.

“The travelling squad has an average age of 20, but are a group we really believe in and have earned this opportunity over the past few months, and we are excited to see them play.”
