Scottish Hockey is pleased to announce Lead the Way applications for the next cohort of Leaders will be opening on Monday 2nd October.
Lead the Way is designed to develop current, and future, leaders in the hockey community. The programme strives to upskill the people of Scotland’s clubs and districts, to promote growth and positive change.
In 2019, Scottish Hockey launched Lead the Way for a four-year cycle. Over the four years, Lead the Way upskilled 76 leaders from 38 clubs across Scotland. In the summer of 2023, the programme was thoroughly reviewed using feedback from Lead the Way alumni to look at how the offer can be enhanced.
Lead the Way graduates have gone onto roles in organisations such as sportscotland; Scottish Sports Futures; and Scottish Hockey. Many other graduates have taken on key roles within clubs such as Social Media Manager, lead coaching and committee roles, including Club President.
Upon the final session of year four of the programme, Scottish Hockey surveyed candidates from 2019 to 2022 to gain feedback. Lead the Way participants said they have gained confidence, developed their communication skills, and made valuable connections with link minded leaders. These developments have created a positive impact on individual development and potential careers for Lead the Way alumni.
Lead the Way graduate Vicki Sadler said:
“The Lead the Way programme has been an amazing experience. It has allowed me to gain valuable insight into clubs across Scotland, whilst developing my personal skills such as confidence and leadership, which I could take back to my club.
“I particularly enjoyed the workshops on growth mind set and communication styles. Lead The Way facilitated new friendships within the hockey community, and provided me with opportunities to get involved with Scottish Hockey, including the Scottish Finals and Brave Cup. I was also fortunate to be part of the Lead the Way review working group to continue to enhance the programme for future years. I would recommend the programme!”
Cycle two of the Lead the Way programme will open for applications on Monday 2nd October.
In the next cycle, the programme will be delivered through a blended learning approach of face to face, and online sessions, running over an 18-month period.
Lead the Way offers a range of core workshops, additional learning opportunities and the option to volunteer at Scottish Hockey. Leaders will have the opportunity to work alongside link minded individuals, and learn from some of the country’s best in business, on how to maximise their potential and lead change.
New to the programme:
The programme is now delivered over an 18-month period to enhance the support being offered. During the programme, candidates will be supported to deliver a project of their choice within their club that encompasses the Scottish Hockey values.
Bespoke workshops throughout the programme will provide leaders with knowledge and confidence to deliver their chosen project back at their club. Scottish Hockey will appoint each candidate a mentor to provide one-to-one support for their projects and their personal development. At the end of the programme, candidates will showcase their project to the cohort and special guests at a celebratory graduation.
If Lead the Way is something you or someone you know will be interested in, keep an eye on the Scottish Hockey website and social media as applications open Monday 2nd October.
