Santi Frexia set to leave Amsterdam

Santi Freixa (38) is in his last season as head coach for the men of Amsterdam. The expiring contract of the former Spanish international will not be extended, because the desired results have not yet been achieved. The big league announced this on Wednesday afternoon via the club site.

Freixa, who in the past also wore the Amsterdam outfit as a player, took over the duties of interim coach Jan Jorn van ‘t Land in the summer of 2019 . When Freixa took office, goals were set to further shape the rejuvenation and reinforcement of Amsterdam Heren 1 and to participate in the top of the Tulp Hoofdlasse Heren.

Disappointing results

“By including many new, young and talented players in the group, Santi has been able to make a nice mark”, Amsterdam reports . ‘At the same time, the desired results have not yet been achieved. After this season, the team will continue to build with a different approach to play hockey at the top for a long time. ‘

This season, Amsterdam is in sixth place after seven rounds. Freixa’s formation only beat Hurley (5-1) and Almere (3-2). In the broken corona season, Amsterdam won six of the fifteen league matches and the team ‘finished’ in seventh place.

“We are grateful to Santi for his contribution to the club and appreciate his tremendous commitment, commitment and professionalism,” the club continues. ‘For now we look forward to playing again and to successfully complete the current season together with Santi and the team.’
