After Oranje-Rood cancelled his initial transfer due to the Corona Virus pandemic, they can now confirm the signing of former England captain Phil Roper on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old England international (148 caps) who signs from Wimbledon will play in Eindhoven for ‘at least two seasons’. Speaking about their new signing, the Brabant club lacked superlatives in saying he poses ‘unprecedented speed and technique and great scoring ability’.
“With his international experience and given his age, he will ensure a nice balance in the team,” said Harry van Hout on behalf of the top hockey foundation of Oranje-Rood.

Selection for OR is probably complete.
Oranje-Rood, in the current year only a mid-runner, indicates that the selection for the coming season is ‘expected to be complete’. With coach Robert van der Horst strengthening his side, as he brought in an old acquaintance Jelle Galema, who returns after a short spell at Den Bosch, they expect that OR compete again for the playoffs.
The best league
Phil Roper is says, ‘ I’ve always wanted to go and play in the best league in the world. The challenge to play against some of the best players week in and week out is hugely exciting to me. Oranje Rood is a club I have always admired, with top quality players and coaches, I go there wanting to learn and win.’
